The project is part of a wider programme aimed at restoring the landscape of a 10-hectare property in the Colli Berici (Berici Hills) used as a bauxite quarry in the 1980s, and which will now be transformed into an organic winery.
In particular, the project envisages the complete reconfiguration of the volume of the quarry’s truck loading shed, adapting and transforming it to the new functions of the new winery. The entire construction revolves around the central space of the tanks: a large fulcrum space which, covered and closed by glass windows, offers visual permeability to visitors, between the inside and the outside of the building, opening up the view towards the vineyards. Next to this space, mirrored, are the service areas, such as the barrel cellar with its closed upper mezzanine on one side, and the open tractor bay with an open upper mezzanine on the other.
To protect the wine cellar from the weather, along its entire front, the south façade overlooking the vineyards is covered by a portico, which builds on the archetype of traditional agricultural structures, with a double pitch roof sloping along the main axis.
Materials and colours – such as the rough plaster walls in soft earthy colours, the natural wood for the beams, and light gray smooth cement for the pillars – are typical of the area and are designed to blend in harmoniously with the landscape.
